    Osman Keten

    (Mosaic, Oil Painting, Red, Soil)

Osman Keten's art practices started in Ali Atakan's atelier. Then, he studied Fine Arts in İstanbul. Keten moves beyond the traditional techniques by adopting the modernist sense of art. During his student years, Keten made wall paintings, mosaic and glass painting in order to earn a living. Therefore he is familiar with different materials and he uses such materials later on in his artworks.  The artist continues to work on mosaic and decoration in different places following his return to Cyprus. He also works as a primary school teacher at the same time. Keten, who experienced war himself, participated in pro-peace studies. His artwork is often about Cyprus, the suffering and the political state of the island. The artist, who uses red color frequently and quite strikingly, balances the color with these compositions. Keten's dominance on human anatomy and perfection in blending different materials can be observed in his figurative and collage works, respectively. Changes in artist's style in different periods can easily be seen in his paintings that are in the collection. Apart from the traditional canvas oil paintings, Keten also goes towards different materials. One of his art pieces from 2015 which is also in the collection reflects the fertile nature of the soil even though the cracks are visible on its surface. The art piece has quite remarkable outcomes when it is analysed with the perspective of a geographic artist who tries to get back his strength after experiencing war.
